The Design Process – Web

Our Web Design Process

This article is the first in a series about the web design process.

This will allow anyone who looks at our services get an idea at the process. From the beginning to the end, the majority of steps will be shown as to how we do things here at AVectoredPixel!

The website that we are going to be building is the new AVectoredPixel design studio website. As nice as the current site is, it is outdated. Code is thrown about within the heart of the site and quite frankly things are broken. The site could be far more impressive and user friendly.

It is currently built upon WordPress. Customized from the bottom up. There is useless code floating in the .CSS and honestly it’s a nightmare.

But seriously, what is the process for design?

Web design is a multi-step process. We work in a method that allows us to figure the basics and build upon that from the bottom up!

Initially when a new client contacts AVectoredPixel for web work we send a Design Questionnaire. This allows us to get an initial idea of the project.
We ask that this is filled out to the best of the customers knowledge. The more the better!

Topics such as Target Audience, type of site, whether or not there is a web host and domain name already can help a lot. This will help us give the client an idea on the pricing involved that will be either an additional charge from us, or an expense that the client has to pay.

Typically after this is received we work up a basic quote.

Here are the basics for AVectoredPixel.com and what we are wanting to implement and change.

  • HTML5 and CSS3 strictly
  • Should be little to no Javascript involved unless necessary
  • Similar theme colors
  • Similar yet fresh and new landing page layout
  • Implement new logo
  • Improve SEO
  • Improve blog layout and usage ability
  • We want one of those fancy menus that travel with the page as it scroll
  • Mobile friendly is a necessity, improved UI
  • Features for future purchasing for orders
  • Individual user account logins for clients

These are the basics that we want. There are a great many more details involved and we have researched for ourselves and have an idea where we want to go. However, with these bullet points as a guide we can make sure that the end result will be close to what we want for ourselves, and our clients. Now if we were to quote this, the breakdown would be as follows.

  • 1-2 months
  • $500 down payment necessary before work begins
  • $200 for blog and conversion to wordpress
  • $800 for landing page design and setup
  • $800 for client portal
  • $1000 for online purchase portal
  • $100 for remaining behind the scenes

Total Est: $3300

With that cost in mind, we have decided to move forward! HA! Pay ourselves with out own money.
